emissions,<\/li>\n<li>Nearly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalgeographic.com\/science\/article\/plastics-facts-infographics-ocean-pollution#:~:text=40%20percent%20of%20plastic%20produced,just%20once%20and%20then%20discarded.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">half<\/a> of all plastic ever manufactured was made since 2000,<\/li>\n<li>Plastic production has more than doubled in the last 2 decades and is expected to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oecd.org\/environment\/plastics\/plastics-lifecycle-is-far-from-circular.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">triple<\/a> by target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">declining<\/a>, unlike the high recycling rate of paper, cardboard, and metals,<\/li>\n<li>Plastic packaging recycling rate in the EU reached a high 42.4 % in 2016 but has been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.statista.com\/statistics\/881967\/plastic-packaging-waste-recycling-eu\/#:~:text=The%20recycling%20rate%20of%20plastic,been%20in%20decline%20since%20then\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">declining<\/a> since, reaching 37.6 % in 2020.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"column-post-1\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" href=\"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/usa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/Greenpeace-Report-Circular-Claims-Fall-Flat.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">fails<\/a> because almost all post-consumer plastics, except PET #1 and HDPE #2 bottles and jugs, are extremely difficult to collect, sort, and reprocess,<\/li>\n<li>The triangular arrow with a number inside indicates the type of the plastic material, <a href=\"http:\/\/guides.stopwaste.org\/packaging\/avoiding-pitfalls\/resin-identification-code\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NOT<\/a> that the item is recyclable,<\/li>\n<li>Plastic that is <a href=\"https:\/\/stories.undp.org\/why-arent-we-recycling-more-plastic\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">contaminated<\/a> with food residue or made of mixed materials like <a href=\"https:\/\/recyclecoach.com\/blog\/why-cant-you-recycle-paper-coffee-cups\/#:~:text=Unlike%20most%20paper%20items%2C%20paper,and%20turned%20into%20recycled%20paper.\" target=\"_blank\" collected separately, compared to mixed collection schemes,<\/li>\n<li>2021 was the first year in which EU consumption of plastic bags <a
